Group Classes

Feldenkrais group classes are known as Awareness Through Movement lessons. These classes use slow, mindful movements to achieve deep yet simple effects in terms of strength, flexibility, and holistic integration of body and mind. The video below shows a sample of what these kind of classes can look like. They vary widely, however, and I always tailor my classes to the particular group and its needs.

I hold Awareness through Movement classes on a regular term time basis. Each segment addresses a different aspect of how your movement can bring you into a deeper contact with yourself. This deeper contact creates the awareness necessary for healing, and for continued health.

Each class lasts about 50 minutes, and there can be considerable variation in the type of activities from one class to another. You might walk, stand, or sit in a chair, although usually you will lie on the floor in a variety of comfortable positions: either on your back, front, or side. From whichever posture, you will be guided through a series of slow, controlled movements. We will always maintain gentle attention, and stay within a comfortable range.

Rather than “progressing” to a higher impact type of movement, it is this gentle, comfortable range that will result in the most benefit. Your body’s natural state is health and balance, so the key is to enable natural, automatic healing by becoming aware of, and eliminating harmful movement habits. You can let go of the pressure and demand you place on yourself, and instead listen to your body.
